Trees and Shrubs

Have you recently planted a new tree or shrub and are looking for a way to make sure it gets enough water and nutrients. Newly planted trees and shrubs require additional watering needs compared to a well established plant.

New plantings should be watered every day for 1-2 weeks. For the next 3-12 weeks water every 2-3 days. All plants need at least 1 inch of water a week. A 6-8ft plant requires 2.5 – 3 gallons of water per week during periods of low moisture. Watering Rocks hold 5 gallons of water and can provide water over a 1 to three day period.

It is best when watering around a tree or shrub to water slowly so the moisture can penetrate the soil deeply, at least 12” down, to where the roots are. Wet the entire root area, which extends out to as much as three times the limb spread. Watering Rocks have 6 adjustable drippers so you can determine the speed of your water release and can target multiple areas. When placing drippers around the tree it is a good idea to dig small holes in the ground for the water to drip into. This will insure that the water has a head start in penetrating the soil down to the roots.

Helpful Hint...

Water Rocks may even save on water as they water more efficiently allowing the soil time to absorb the water.

During periods of drought the top 8-12 inches of soil should be kept moist around a tree or shrub, at least as far as the branches spread. There is no formula on how much or how often to water to keep the soil moist 8-12” deep. The amount of watering required varies with local site conditions, but without adequate rainfall, your trees and shrubs may need to be watered as often as every 10-14 days. You should not wait until your plants show signs of stress, such as wilting or yellowing.

Newly planted trees and shrubs need to be watered for 2-3 years while their root systems become established. Many times your plants will be located out of reach from a hose. In those cases a portable water source is needed to supply water. There are many types of water sources like watering cans, buckets, bags, and in our case a 5 gallon plastic rock.

The Package Includes...

…directions, 15 feet of 1/4 inch polyethylene drip line,6 adjustable drippers, 5-1/4inch T connectors, 2 -1/4inch threaded barbs and 2 -1/4 inch line stakes.

For all of these reasons we recommend that you take a look at the Watering Rock Portable Automatic Irrigation Drip System Kit. It is a proven solution that will water when you can’t because of your busy schedule or vacation and where you can’t because of a limited water source.

This sturdy durable plastic(no BPA) rock comes in decorative White Granite and Sandstone colors. They are lightweight( 4lbs empty) and measure 12” high, 14” deep and 16” wide. Believe or not that size holds 5 gallons of water and if you want added nutrients.

That 5 gallons will water for 2-3 days and provide plenty of moisture for your plants as it slowly drips water 24/7, day and night . That saves you 3-4 days of watering. Larger trees or bushes may require 2 rocks for watering when first planted.

The system includes 15 feet of 1/4” drip line to carry the water, six -1/4” adjustable drippers to control the amount of drip you want to the area you want, five – 1/4” T-barbs to make branches off the line to the areas you want to water, and one threaded 1/4” barb to screw into the threaded hole on the bottom back of the rock for the main line hook up. Sounds complicated but is not, once you see how the components work together to design the watering configuration you desire. Assembly usually takes maybe a half hour and we are always available to assist by email or website.

The rock holds almost 5 gallons of water?

We like to use our ATV to load rocks either on the ATV when we only have 1 or 2 or in the wagon we pull behind for multiple rocks. They are durable and handle well as we transport them to the house water hose, fill them up, add any fertilize we want and replace. The rocks fill up quickly with a hose that fits in the 1” hole on the top back side of the rock. You can also take water to the rock and fill it easily if you have a 2 gallon watering can with the spray nozzle removed, leaving the 1” nozzle head that fits into the watering rock fill hole.

These rocks have proven themselves many times and there are some excellent testimonials and reviews on our web page and out there to confirm that they do work and do work well.

Example:
By Peggy on September 24, 2014 I reside in Arizona and maintain a yard filled with many desert plants and trees but a limited watering system. For this reason, I was seeking a mobile water supplementation tool. I tried a tree bag but found it problematic. Therefore, I was excited to learn about the Drip Irrigation Rock – per the description it appeared to be a better match for my watering needs. I decided to try the five gallon rock. I was immediately impressed with their customer service because I received it just shortly after placing my order. I am so pleased with the Drip Irrigation Rock that I ordered two more. It does everything as described – the water trickles out, slowly, beneficially, and completely. It is also very easy to use – just fill and go (no batteries, electricity, or hose hook-up needed). I also appreciate its mobility ease – I use mine for several different plants – front and back as well as my trees.

And

I planted 5 fruit trees last year in pretty bad soil, in the direct Colorado sun at 7000 feet altitude. I did not have a hose long enough to reach the trees. I used 1 rock at each tree with Annie Haven’s MooPooTea and filled once or twice a week depending on MY time available and weather conditions. I now have 2 apple, 2 pear, 1 plum, and 1 peach tree well established. I also use them for my 2 blackberry, 1 raspberry, and 4 grape plants.

Helpful Hint...

Add nutrients to the water in the rock to fertilize.

The rocks use pressure from volume in the rock and gravity to facilitate the water flow which makes them completely portable and require no electric.

These rocks are offered by many vendors on Amazon, Ebay, Walmart.com and other websites at prices that are much lower than the plants you purchase While you are on our web page also check out pictures, videos, helpful hints, and reviews. What They Say

I recently hung a couple hanging flower planters from my back deck. It was a little awkward reaching up to water them everyday. I found the Watering Rock and that solved the problem! The Rock sits on top of my deck with the tubing running down to the planters. Much easier!

What They Say

Good for our needs, fake rock looks good in garden, being able to fill it up and water five plants on a bit of a hillside/ bank works out quite well for our needs, set up is easy, you just have to play with the drip rate. Like the idea of this, saves watering some areas that don’t need water, ie dirt, rocks in yard. gets to the base or rink around plants.
